The recognition adds to American Water’s inclusion in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies for 2026 and TIME’s America’s Best Companies for 2026 lists. With a history dating back to 1886, the company is celebrating 140 years in 2026.

Three Areas of Assessment

TIME partnered with Statista, Inc. to compile the fourth edition of the World’s Best Companies ranking. The assessment drew on survey data from more than 200,000 employees worldwide, three years of company revenue data and sustainability information from Statista’s ESG database and targeted research.

Companies considered for the revenue growth assessment had to meet the ranking’s criteria and show positive revenue growth during the last three years. The complete World’s Best Companies 2026 list is available from TIME.
