Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation have committed more than $70,000 to recovery from severe storms and flooding across Indiana. The funding includes a $55,000 grant to the American Red Cross, along with grants for organizations in Northwest Indiana and Noblesville and donations to Muncie and Richmond. The utility also maintained water and wastewater operations during the storms, helped protect treatment infrastructure in Muncie, and deployed a mobile drinking water semi-trailer to Cambridge City. Support reaches communities including Northwest Indiana, Muncie, Richmond, Noblesville and Cambridge City.

Funding For Local Recovery

The $55,000 American Red Cross grant follows a separate $25,000 disaster relief grant provided in June for tornado recovery in Indiana. The Foundation also awarded $5,000 to Legacy Foundation in Merrillville for disaster recovery and community assistance in Northwest Indiana, and $5,000 to Hamilton County Community Foundation in Noblesville for flood recovery programs serving county residents.

Indiana American Water donated $2,500 each to the City of Muncie and the City of Richmond for local response and recovery activities after flooding.

Barry L. Suits, President of Indiana American Water, said:

“When weather events impact Indiana communities, our employees don't hesitate to step up. Whether they're helping maintain critical water and wastewater systems or supporting emergency response efforts -- even when their own families and communities are facing storm-related challenges -- our team remains committed to serving fellow Hoosiers. In addition, we are grateful for the support of the American Water Charitable Foundation, who helped provide meaningful relief and recovery assistance across Indiana. These grants, combined with the commitment of our employees, reflect our mission to support the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

Protecting Water Service

In Northwest Indiana, utility employees worked around the clock to maintain water and wastewater operations during severe weather. Several employees continued serving customers even while parts of their own communities experienced extended power outages and damage to property.

Across the storms, Indiana American Water employees kept backup power operational and sandbagged facilities to help continue drinking water and wastewater service.

In Muncie, water operations personnel assisted efforts to secure and safeguard critical treatment infrastructure as floodwaters rose. The company also deployed a mobile drinking water semi-trailer to Cambridge City to support emergency response and recovery work by community leaders and first responders.

Support Beyond Service Areas

The recovery work combines grant funding with direct operational assistance in communities served by Indiana American Water and neighboring areas affected by flooding. The Cambridge City deployment extended the company’s emergency support beyond its service territory.

Barry L. Suits, President of Indiana American Water, continued:

“These recovery efforts demonstrate the resilience of Indiana communities and the dedication of countless organizations, volunteers and first responders. We are proud to partner with organizations such as the American Red Cross, Legacy Foundation and Hamilton County Community Foundation to help provide relief and support long-term recovery in the communities we serve and neighboring communities that need assistance.”
