Tennessee American Water Hoists 750,000 Gallon Tank
Tennessee American Water hoisted its new Lookout Valley tank, which will hold 750,000 gallons and double the area's storage capacity once in service.

Tennessee American Water has completed the tank hoist of its new Lookout Valley water storage tank. Once in service, the tank will hold 750,000 gallons of treated water, doubling water storage capacity for the Lookout Valley area. The utility completed the work with contractor Landmark Structures. When placed into service, the tank will also add flexibility and redundancy for customers in the Lookout Valley area of the Citico distribution system. The project forms part of Tennessee American Water’s capital investment program, expected to total more than $45 million in 2026.
Tank Bowl Lifted Onto Pedestal
The welded steel tank bowl was built at ground level around a concrete pedestal approximately 95 feet tall. After construction and coating work, a crane lifted the bowl onto the pedestal. The new tank stands beside an existing elevated storage tank with the same 750,000-gallon capacity.
Tanks in elevated locations use gravity to help deliver treated water through the distribution system to homes and businesses. Tennessee American Water operates 20 tanks in its Citico service area, serving Chattanooga, East Ridge, Lookout Mountain and Red Bank in Tennessee, as well as communities in northwest Georgia.
Storage Supports Service Reliability
The additional capacity is designed to support normal operations and emergency response across the Lookout Valley area.
Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water, said:
“This project represents an important investment in the reliability and resilience of our water system. The additional storage will strengthen our ability to meet customer demand, respond to emergencies, and provide reliable service for years to come.”
