Samaritan’s Purse Sends Over 40 Tons to Nepal
Samaritan’s Purse airlifts relief supplies to Nepal, including water filters and hygiene kits, after a deadly glacial landslide.

Samaritan’s Purse has airlifted more than 40 tons of relief supplies to Kathmandu, Nepal, after a glacial landslide sent water, mud, and debris down a river valley, killing hundreds of residents and leaving thousands missing. Its 767 cargo plane landed Wednesday morning carrying heavy-duty tarp, blankets, water filters, hygiene kits, and solar lights. The organization sent disaster response specialists to Nepal less than 48 hours after the catastrophe. Supplies are being offloaded for delivery to survivors.
Cargo Reaches Kathmandu
The airlift followed early assessments with partners on the ground in Nepal. Samaritan’s Purse began loading its aircraft after contacting those partners for real-time information on needs following the disaster.
The shipment combines shelter materials, water filters, hygiene kits, blankets, and solar lights intended to support people affected by the flooding and landslide.
Emergency Response Begins
The glacial landslide created a wall of water, mud, and debris that moved down the country’s river valley. Samaritan’s Purse is deploying the relief cargo as families await news of people missing after the event.
Franklin Graham, President at Samaritan’s Purse, said:
“The devastation in Nepal is unimaginable. We’re all heartbroken to see the death toll continue to climb, and many families are still waiting for news of their missing loved ones even as they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It’s important that we work quickly to help ease as much suffering as possible. We want the people of Nepal to know that God loves them, and I ask everyone to join us in continuing to pray for them.”
Previous Nepal Relief Work
Samaritan’s Purse previously responded to an earthquake in Nepal in 2015 and maintained an in-country office until 2018. The organization works in more than 100 countries, providing aid to people affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty, famine, and persecution.
