American Water Joins ASCE Watershed Management Conference
American Water Source Water Protection Program will be presented at the 2026 ASCE Watershed Management Conference in Virginia.

American Water is presenting its Source Water Protection Program at the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers Watershed Management Conference, held August 9 through 12 in Reston, Virginia. The utility sources, delivers and treats more than 1 billion gallons of water each day for 14 million customers. Nicholas Kevey, Senior Source Water Protection Manager at American Water, will discuss a framework for assessing risks, engaging stakeholders and implementing measures to safeguard drinking water supplies. The conference marks 60 years of watershed science.
Source Water Protection
Kevey’s presentation will draw on case studies examining how American Water develops and deploys tools and strategies to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance drinking water resilience across its watersheds. The program sets out a structured framework for risk assessment, stakeholder engagement and proactive source water protection measures.

Its discussions cover current and emerging watershed management issues, particularly watershed health and long-term viability.
American Water’s participation centers on research and strategies related to watershed science, including the application of its source water protection tools across its watersheds.
Watershed Protection Work
The presentation positions American Water’s source water protection activities around practical measures to assess vulnerabilities and protect drinking water supplies. The company will use its case studies to outline how those measures are developed and deployed.
