PolyGone Systems Targets Microplastics in Water
PolyGone Systems' biomimetic filtration media captures up to 98% of microscopic plastic particles down to the nanoscale, according to All Access.

PolyGone Systems’ biomimetic filtration media captures up to 98% of microscopic plastic particles down to the nanoscale, according to a release from All Access hosted by Andy Garcia, an educational public television program that features the company and its approach to microplastic removal. PolyGone’s gravity-driven treatment method is designed to operate with low energy use and fit into existing infrastructure. The release says billions of sub-millimeter plastic fragments evade traditional filtration.
Material Affinity Treatment
PolyGone is developing treatment systems based on material affinity, rather than conventional size-restrictive filtration barriers. The approach leverages materials that naturally attract and isolate microscopic particles present in water. Conventional infrastructure typically relies on rigid mechanical barriers that are prone to clogging.
Nathaniel Banks, CEO at PolyGone Systems, said:
“The greatest opportunity in water treatment isn't simply filtering smaller particles; it's rethinking how we remove them altogether. By designing technologies that work with natural material interactions instead of against them, we can protect public health by making microplastic water treatment practical at a global scale.”
Municipal And Industrial Applications
The company is positioning its filtration media for critical treatment points in municipal and industrial systems. Its stated aim is to remediate real-world water streams without disrupting existing treatment processes or vital public utilities.
PolyGone also identifies data transparency and systemic risk management as parts of its methodology. The release points to a lack of standardized baseline data that complicates municipal compliance, leaving public utility operators searching for transparent tracking mechanisms that can validate purification efficacy in real time.
Focus On Microplastic Control
Founded out of Princeton University, PolyGone Systems is focused on low-energy filtration media for microplastics in water infrastructure. The company’s feature on All Access centers on the challenge of extracting sub-millimeter plastic fragments from water systems before they accumulate in aquatic ecosystems and drinking water sources.
