Bluefield Water Main Project Set for Thompson Avenue

West Virginia American Water will invest $275,000 to replace 600 feet of aging water main on Thompson Avenue in Bluefield, West Virginia. The project covers Thompson Avenue between Walton and Maryland avenues, replacing the existing pipe with 2-inch PVC main. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of October, with final street restoration planned for fall 2026. The work forms part of the utility’s more than $129 million statewide infrastructure upgrade plan for 2026.
Thompson Avenue Work Schedule
Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic restrictions will remain in place during the project. Customers in the construction area may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, or lower-than-normal water pressure.

Statewide Capital Program
West Virginia American Water has invested more than $805 million in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades across the state over the past decade, including more than 168 miles of new water main. Customers can view the company’s interactive upgrade map for details of ongoing investments.
The utility serves approximately 610,000 people in West Virginia with water and wastewater services. It states that economic impact studies show investments of $1 million in water infrastructure generate upwards of 10 jobs throughout local economies.
Customer Service During Construction
Crews will work to limit the duration of temporary construction-related disruptions. Customers can submit a service request on the company’s website to report leaks, main breaks, or other water service disruptions.
