California American Water has begun an $8.6 million water main replacement project in the Lincoln Oaks system, serving approximately 245 customers in the Sylvan Park neighborhood. The work will replace aging water mains, move key assets from customer backyards to public streets, and install individual water meters. Construction began in August 2026 and is expected to continue through June 2027. The project is designed to improve access for maintenance and repairs while strengthening service reliability in the neighborhood.

Replacing Backyard Water Mains

Parts of the Lincoln Oaks water system have long relied on mains located in customer backyards. California American Water will relocate these pipes to public streets, where crews can more readily access, maintain and repair them. As these pipes age, they become more susceptible to leaks, main breaks and service disruptions.

Usmita Pokharel, Senior Manager of Project Engineering at California American Water, said:

“Providing safe, clean, reliable water service starts with investing in the infrastructure our customers depend on every day. By modernizing these critical assets, we're improving our ability to respond to repairs when needed and helping ensure reliable service for the community for years to come.”

Meters For Sylvan Park Customers

Alongside the main replacement work, California American Water will install individual water meters throughout Sylvan Park. The meters are intended to give customers greater visibility into their water use and support future water-efficiency efforts.

Construction Area And Schedule

Construction is taking place in Sylvan Park, generally bounded by Auburn Boulevard, Cotillion Way, Sylvan Middle School, and the Westchester and Grenola area. The Lincoln Oaks project reflects California American Water’s continued investment in modernizing aging water infrastructure and improving service for customers in Lincoln Oaks.
