West Virginia American Water will invest $900,000 to replace 2,000 feet of aging water pipe on Autumn Road in Charleston. The project will install a 6-inch PVC main between the Clark Road and Loma Road intersections. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of November, with final street restoration planned for spring 2027. The work forms part of the utility’s planned investment of more than $129 million in infrastructure upgrades statewide during 2026.

Autumn Road Main Replacement

Crews will work Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic restrictions in place throughout construction. Customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, or lower than normal water pressure while the work is underway.

Scott Wyman, President of West Virginia American Water, said:

“At West Virginia American Water, we believe the best way to maintain a strong, reliable water system is through continued, proactive investment. By making strategic infrastructure improvements today, we can help reduce future disruptions, improve service reliability for our customers, and maintain our quality standards.”

Statewide Capital Program

The Charleston project is one element of West Virginia American Water’s 2026 capital program. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 10 jobs are generated throughout local economies.

Over the past decade, the utility has invested more than $805 million in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades across West Virginia, including more than 168 miles of new water main. Customers can view the company’s interactive upgrade map for details of ongoing investments.

Customer Service During Work

Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten temporary customer impacts during the Autumn Road construction. Customers reporting leaks, main breaks, or other service disruptions can submit a service request on the company’s website.
