Kentucky American Water has completed water main replacement projects in Lexington’s North Limestone, Euclid and Fontaine areas. The utility replaced aging infrastructure with modern water mains intended to improve service reliability, fire safety and operational resiliency. The work also aims to reduce the likelihood of future water main breaks and support existing and future customers. Kentucky American Water serves approximately 550,000 people with water and wastewater services.

Restoration Work Continues

With the utility’s construction complete, the City of Lexington will carry out final restoration and paving work in the North Limestone and Fontaine Road areas. At the City’s request, Kentucky American Water will complete paving on Euclid Avenue after Sept. 18.

The projects required thousands of hours of planning, engineering and construction, with employees and contractors maintaining water service and access to homes and businesses during the work.

Rob Burton, president of Kentucky American Water, said:

“We greatly appreciate the support and cooperation of our customers, businesses, community leaders and everyone who traveled through the area as we completed this essential investment. Their patience helped us deliver improvements that will strengthen reliable water service for the community.”

Long Term Service Improvements

The completed work modernized sections of the water distribution system and strengthens the utility’s ability to provide service across the area. Kentucky American Water characterized the replacement program as a long-term investment in reliable water service for the Lexington community.

Rob Burton, president of Kentucky American Water, said:

“Major infrastructure projects are important investments that we make to maintain the high level of service our customers expect and deserve. We appreciate the community's support and would like to thank all involved as we completed this important work. We look forward to the lasting benefits it will deliver to our customers.”

Partnership With Lexington

Kentucky American Water plans to continue working with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government on future improvements. The utility said replacing aging infrastructure before failures occur is necessary to maintain the water service customers depend on each day.

American Water, Kentucky American Water’s parent company, provides regulated drinking water and wastewater services to approximately 14 million people in 14 states and on 19 military installations.
